A newly established Park which is part of what is known as Selous Game Reserve. The Park has been founded in the year 2019 and covers an area of over 30,000 square kilometres, now the largest National Park in Africa.
The park boasts Tanzania’s largest population of elephant as well as a large number of lions, leopard, African hunting dogs, buffalo and hippo. Species commonly seen are bushbuck, red and blue duikers, eland, hartebeest, hyena, giraffe, oryx, reedbuck, impala, waterbuck and zebra. The park has the most extensive diversity of safari activities ranging from Romantic Boat Safari along the Great Rufiji River, legendary fly camping trips, walking and compliment standard game driving in thriving wildlife areas.
Mikumi National Park lies alongside the Northern border of Africa’s biggest Game Reserve – the Selous Game Reserve– forming a unique ecosystem. The open horizons and abundant wildlife of the Mkata Floodplain, the fashionable centrepiece of Mikumi, draw frequent comparisons to the more famous Serengeti Plains.
More than 400 bird species recorded, the lilac-breasted roller, yellow-throated longclaw and bateleur eagle joined by a host of European migrants during the rainy season.
Ruaha National Park is the largest National park in Tanzania, covers an area of about 22,000 km². It is one of the few of Tanzania’s famous wilderness areas whereby the experience of game viewing spiced up by the exciting landscape and its Great Ruaha River.
The park has a high concentration of elephants, and magnificent mammals like greater and lesser kudu, sable and roan antelopes can easily be spotted in miombo woodland. The park is also a habitat for endangered wild dogs, leopards, cheetah, giraffes, zebras, elands, impala, bat-eared foxes and jackals.
Udzungwa is the most significant example of the natural world of the Eastern Arc Mountains that run in a chain through the whole of Tanzania. The forest makes Udzungwa unique in East Africa, and there is no other place with unbroken series of wood stretching from an altitude of 250 meters up to more than 2000 meters.
There are several species among the flora and fauna that are endemic to Udzungwa including an endangered Iringa, Red Colobus monkey and the Sanje crested mangabey. Are you sure I thougt this red colobus is only in Zanzibar.
